  • There will be no excessive use of profanity.
  • There will be no racial, ethnic, gender based insults or any other personal discriminations.
  • There will be no posts meant to offend or hurt any other member, in a manner which is offensive or inflammatory.
  • Spamming is not permitted; please keep all your posts as constructive as possible.
  • Pornography, Warez, or any other illegal transactions may NOT be linked in any shape or form.
  • All posts are property of the poster. This forum and all web sites owned in conjunction with this forum have the right to request alteration or deletion of any offensive post. Posts may be deleted for any reasons the forum administrators deem reasonable.
  • Advertising or commercial-related products are all forbidden in any relation to your account.
  • Any impersonation of a user from these forums, in any mode of communication, is strictly prohibited and will result in a banning.

Violating the rules
  • Please read the following rules and guidelines very carefully.
  • By proceeding to post you agree to these guidelines and must obey them at all times.
  • Failure or refusal to obey these guidelines will result in the appropriate responsive actions and may result in your account being revoked.
  • If you follow the these web board guidelines, you will not have a problem with the moderators and/or rules.

The fine print
General Rules
  • Using the web boards is a privilege, not a right. If you behave in an unacceptable manner, you may find your posts deleted, or even your account closed down and banned from the web boards entirely. Do not blame MacGamer.net or the moderators if you own behavior causes you to be exiled from the web boards.

  • Please read the web boards for a bit before you post anything. This helps you to get an understanding of the culture of the web board. Each individual web board has its own group of regulars, and its own culture/norms.

  • Consider that a large audience will see your posts. Take care in what you write. Remember too, that the web boards are archived, and that your words may be stored for a very long time in a place to which many people have access.

  • The golden rule your parents and your kindergarten teacher taught you was pretty simple: Do unto others as you'd have others do unto you. Imagine how you'd feel if you were in the other person's shoes. Stand up for yourself, but try not to hurt people's feelings.

  • The moderators are people who help to keep the peace on the web boards, as well as performing a substantial behind the scenes role to keep things running smoothly. Please be respectful to them, appreciate the work they do for your benefit, and try to be helpful if there is a problem that needs to be solved.

  • Remember that the majority of people that post to these web boards do not work for, nor are they affiliated with MacGamer.net. Neither the moderators, nor MacGamer.net can be held responsible for the behavior of these people, or the content of their posts.

  • Assume that individuals speak for themselves, and what they say does not represent their organization (unless stated explicitly). While the Moderators assist in maintaining the web boards, they do not speak for MacGamer.net.

  • Have fun! The web boards are meant to be an enjoyable way to interact with others; have fun with it, and don't take yourself too seriously.

When posting
  • Remember that the people you're talking to are human beings whose culture, language, and humor have different points of reference from your own. Remember that date formats, measurements, and idioms may not travel well. Be especially careful with sarcasm.

  • Postings should be brief and to the point. Don't wander off-topic, don't ramble and don't post messages solely to point out other people's errors in typing or spelling. These, more than any other behavior, mark you as an immature beginner.

  • Read all of a discussion in progress (we call this a thread) before posting replies. Avoid posting "Me Too" messages, where content is limited to agreement with previous posts.

  • If there is a FAQ available for the web board you're posting to, read it first. It very well may contain the answer to the question you're about to post, getting you a solution much more quickly than posting to the web boards might (and without annoying the web board regulars with common questions).

  • Be brief without being overly terse. When replying to a message, include enough original material to be understood but no more. It is extremely bad form to simply reply to a message by including all the previous message: edit out all the irrelevant material.

  • Use smilies to indicate tone of voice, but use them sparingly. :) is an example of a smiley (Look sideways). Don't assume that the inclusion of a smiley will make the recipient happy with what you say or wipe out an otherwise insulting comment.

  • Wait overnight to send emotional responses to messages. If you have really strong feelings about a subject, indicate it via FLAME ON/OFF enclosures. For example: [FLAME ON] This type of argument is not worth the bandwidth it takes to send it . It's illogical and poorly reasoned. The rest of the world agrees with me. [FLAME OFF]

  • Don't get involved in flame wars. Neither post nor respond to incendiary material.

  • Topics should have a subject heading which reflects the content of the message. Do not name topics "ALL READ" or other such ambiguous titles that convey no information about the contents.

  • Sexually and racially harassing messages are not only unacceptable, but may also have legal implications.

  • Forgeries and spoofing are not approved behavior.

Other information
  • We require all posts to be positive, constructive, and on topic. We may delete individual posts that could ruin a good topic thread.

  • We reserve the right to remove any topics we deem inappropriate or disruptive to our community. Please note that, from time to time, topics may be removed for being inappropriate even though your individual post in that topic may have been perfectly fine. Please do not feel this reflects badly on you.

  • Having fun is good, we like fun. There are several general forums for non-IPS related topics. Please keep it positive and polite. We do not censor opinions or ideas on our forums but we do take action against posts and/or topics that could cause unrest in the community beyond a civil and polite disagreement.

  • You may not make personal attacks on other users or staff members either in public forums or private messages.

  • You may not use profanity. It is unprofessional and offensive and will not be tolerated. We have word filters in place for the most vulgar terms. Circumventing those word filters will result in punitive action.

  • We reserve the right to ban any member who violates our guidelines or disrupts our community. We will be fair and provide warning in most cases.

  • If you have an issue concerning our services, policies, or staff, please use a personal contact method such as a private message or email to a staff member. We take serious complaints to heart and will do our best to address them.
