Shifting Shifting gears is a critical component to good racing in Redline. You could drive automatic, obviously, but that would give you less control than is ideal (and it's less fun). As before stated, run the car to it's redline before shifting up. (You can do this in real life too, but don't expect long engine life or good fuel economy.) When you approach a turn, and are braking for it, shift down. This will give you better power delivery all the way through the turn. Shifting gears during a turn or other manoeuvre is not recommended as it upsets the balance of the car and can lead to you leaving the tarmac somewhat violently. Therefore, if at all possible, do your shifting between turns. Also, it is okay to shift gears constantly. Downshift to a turn, upshift after it, downshift a moment later into another turn, downshift again for a tighter turn, upshift on the way out, downshift for another tight turn. That's involved driving, and you will be rewarded with better times. As opposed to simply remaining in a gear through the whole thing. In cars with lots of torque, or just cars that generally are a bit difficult to control, it is sometimes a good idea to start in second, or take a difficult turn a gear up from what you normally would. This to prevent you from spinning.
