Challenges Cars are unlocked in Redline by completing challenges. When you first play Redline you only have access to the Mini Cooper (the rest of the cars say "Locked"). In order to unlock faster cars, you will need to complete the challenges with at least a Bronze medal. There are, however, special rewards for earning Silver and Gold medals for some of the challenges. All of these challenges require practice, precision, control, and patience. Don't expect to earn a Gold medal (or even a Bronze) on the first try. If you are having problems with a specific challenge, try racing the car in Quick Race mode to get a feel for it. Read the tips provided here, experiment with different techniques. Read the simulation driving school tips. If you are still having problems, switch to a different challenge if possible, discuss tactics with other Redline fans, or post a topic on the Redline forums. If you are playing multiplayer, it is recommended that you unlock at least some of the cars. Only the cars you have unlocked in Challenges are available when racing multiplayer. If you are hosting a game, and everyone else has a faster car, you can enable "Force host car: yes" so that other players are required to race your selected car. If you join another person's game who has unlocked faster cars, don't expect them to switch down to make it a level playing field for you.
Accelerating and Braking 1 - DeLorean
This challenge is straightforward, literally. Basically the goal is to stop under the finish line without hitting the cones at the end. If you're using an automatic transmission be sure to start off with the full throttle key (default Shift) to get a faster start. To get a gold I've found it helpful to use the e-brake (default Spacebar) to slide the car around at the end to bring the car to a stop a little bit quicker. Accelerating and Braking 2 - Vette
This challenge is basically the last challenge except with a faster car, and with less time to complete the goal. Again using the full throttle key is helpful in getting up to speed quicker, just be sure to not spin the car out or hang around too long in 1st gear. Slalom 1 - Golf
The goal of this challenge is to weave back and forth through the cones on the track, without hitting any of them, all while passing the finish line in the required amount of time. With the Golf this is a pretty easy challenge, you'll want to head a bit to your left as you start out to give yourself a better entry into the first turn. But other than that its just a matter of going fast but not too fast and not hitting any of the cones. One thing to watch out for in this challenge is the Golf's horrible start. If you rev up the engine before the challenge starts you'll end up wasting precious seconds spinning your wheels. You should wait till you receive the "Go!" message before trying to accelerate. Slalom 2 - Charger
This is the first really hard challenge, keeping control of the Charger, a rear wheel drive car while performing quick back and forth turns while it's raining is very tough. Again you should wait till you receive the "Go!" text before you start to accelerate. To make it through this challenge you need to be trying to keep your turns as quick and shallow as possible. A hard turn might get you around one set of cones but it will send you sliding into the grass on the next. Tight Curve - Audi TT
After beating the Slalom 2 challenge this one will seem almost easy. Just start off with the full throttle key and accelerate till you get near the turn. Tap the brake just for an instant to make sure the car is fully in control then start your left turn so you nearly touch the red curb on the left side of the turn. Once you clear the turn just hold the full throttle key and go under the finish. The Audi TT is a pretty stable car, if you just throw it into the turn it is should make it around with no problems. S-Curve - Viper
The S-Curve challenge seems like it should be pretty simple yet you'll end up doing it over and over because you missed the time by a few tenth of a second. Basically you'll want to go as fast as possible, hit the inside of both turns and head through the finish without nicking any cones. The problem is that doing that within the required time is hard. Just try again and look for places to shave down your time. Canyon Curve - Diablo
Unfortunately this challenge doesn't have any real secrets about it. It is mainly a challenge that forces you to figure out and improve on your racing line. You'll want to start out as fast as possible using the full throttle key but after that its just a matter of staying fast through the turns without crashing, hitting the walls, or sliding sideways too much. Just remember that even though an impressive slide around a corner might look cool, sliding sideways means your tires aren't gripping and thus aren't moving you forward as fast as possible. Downhill Corners - Mustang
The Downhill Corners challenge is sort of like the S-Curve challenge, except now you have to deal with a steep hill. And that makes a ton of difference. You'll want to start out fast as usual and get to that first big turn as quickly as possible. Going down the first hill to the left, more weight will be on the front axle of the car, causing it to understeer more then usual. You will have to counter this to get around the corner by gently applying the engine brake (or handbrake when you slide out too far) while entering the corner. Then use the full throttle key to put the car into a powerslide out of the corner. For the 180 degree corner after this, it mostly comes down to getting the racing line right. As you're approaching the corner rather slow (since you just came out of the other corner), you can apex it quite late getting a fast exit speed towards the finish line. City Corners - Maserati 3200GT
The City Corners challenge is not all that hard once you figure out how to attack the double 90 degree turns. Start out and angle slightly to the left so by the time you are near the first turn you are a little to the left of the white line. As you near the turn, go hard to the right and try to cut across the little bit of curb on the inside of the turn. Straighten out and head up the hill along the right white line. Before you hit the jump start turning left. The goal is to have your car already turning when you hit the jump so you don't have to turn as much when you land. When you land just straighten up and head up the hill and through the finish. Offroad Corners - BMW 2002
The Offroad Corners challenge is all about figuring out how to keep your speed going on the dirt surface of the Rally Track. The dirt surface means you can't simply go full speed like you could on a paved surface. For the big left turn you can cut slightly through the grass on the left, but don't go too far in or you'll lose speed. For the rest of the course you just need to figure out how to get around the turns without having to use the brake too much. Keeping your speed up (and of course not spinning out on the dirt) are keys to getting gold. Snow Trial - Porsche 959
The Snow Trial might seem difficult when you first try it out. Getting the Porsche to go through that ice patch without sliding into the snow banks or spinning out is a tedious process. It requires slowing down a whole lot and carefully controlling you accelerator, steering, and brake. Fortunately there is an easier way. Instead of staying on the road along the large ice patch you can cut along the snow bank on the left. What you want to do is to go through the snow and exit on the other side of the ice free roadway. It might take a few tries to keep from spinning out in the snow but I've always found it easier and faster than doing it the "correct" way. Racing Trial - GT
The racing trial is one of my favorites because you get to go around an entire track for once. There isn't anything special to be said about the racing trial that isn't already covered in the High Speed Loop's walkthrough as they are the exact same thing. |
